Prof. Ram Kumar Fellowships to the Conference Attendees

Academic conferences play a vital role in catalyzing scientific breakthroughs and technological innovations by providing forum for researchers and practitioners to meet and discuss new advances and get to know each other that helps with forming and nurturing collaborations. However, attending a conference is expensive.

We aim to provide few (unfortunately!) fellowships to students and scholars to partially cover expenses that they would otherwise incur out of their own personal funds.

More in detail:

1. We like our grant to be used to provide Fellowships of up to $250 each to n attendees. The value of n can range from 10-20 depending upon the expected number of student attendees (roughly 10%). We insist that the conference organizing committee take sole responsibility of defining the selection procedure, making the selections, and doing the disbursements.

The 250*n format has been successfully used by other conferences (e.g. ICDE 2015VLDB 2015) and aligns well with our goal  to democratize knowledge acquisition and diffusion and we want to stay with this format.

2. We are set up as a Giving Account at Fidelity Charitable. We can therefore recommend grants only to a 501c(3) organization or a body affiliated with a 501c(3) organization. We need the following information for your conference (or the the 501c(3) organization with which the conference is affiliated): i) Name and address of the organization, ii) Its Tax ID number, iii)  Name of the contact person, and iv) Phone number of the contact person. Using this information, we initiate the grant recommendation with Fidelity Charitable, which then directly sends the check.

3. We appreciate that the conference website include information that describes the Fellowship and eventually lists the names and affiliations of the recipients.  We also appreciate to be included and linked along with other sponsors of your conference. Here are our links for this purpose: i) Foundation’s website, and ii) image of the Foundation’s logo. Please use the full name of the foundation: Professor Ram Kumar Memorial Foundation.

We are not a corporation or an academic institution. See the ICDE 2015 travel awards page and main page as examples of how you might list us.

Next step:

Please send the following information to fellowships@ramkumarfoudation.org:

A) The number of Fellowships you intend to give out and the amount of each fellowship.
B) Information listed in the item 2) above.
C) How the conference website will list us.

Thank you for providing us the possibility to contribute to your conference.
