Asia is in the midst of a historic transformation. Asia’s per capita income is projected to\u00a0rise sixfold and its share of global gross domestic product is expected to increase to 52 percent by 2050. Science and technology has been cited as one of the key pillars for the success of Asia’s development.<\/p>\n
The plenary panel, titled “Data Engineering in Asia: Unique Technical Challenges and Opportunities<\/a>“, \u00a0organized by Rakesh Agrawal at the\u00a031st International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2015<\/a>),\u00a0\u00a0pondered how data engineering can uniquely contribute\u00a0to the emergent Asian century.<\/p>\n Each panelist described a data-centric problem from their personal experience that had uniquely Asian flavor in the problem definition, or the solution approach, or preferably both.
